“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”

My Philosophy of Education
A quality education is important, as it provides students with the opportunities to succeed in work and life. It encourages students to open their minds to different points of view, inspires a love of learning, and pushes them to be a better version of themselves. When considering teaching as a profession, one must understand the importance of education and believe it is the foundation of our society. Educators should strive to model their classrooms and teaching style to reflect an acceptance of different points of view, exhibit a love of learning to their students, and establish high expectations for all students where they can succeed in all that they do.I consider my teaching style to be consistent in classroom management and procedure driven, that involves students in the learning process. I will incorporate a balance of whole-group and small-group instruction, encouraging open discussions and partner shares to facilitate learning across all subjects. I am a firm believer of small-group workstations, as they effectively meet the different learning styles of all students and provide them with a choice in their learning. However, I will be flexible to changes, as each year my classroom will be filled new students and new needs. A teaching style that is consistent in classroom management and procedure driven provides students with a conducive learning environment, that allows teachers to effectively instruct all students.
Building a professional relationship with my students will consist of several strategies. I will give my students consistent, positive verbal praise on academic and behavior accomplishments. This will show them I am genuinely proud of their accomplishments and hope to encourage them to continue giving their best each day. I will require the same reasonable expectations of all my students and work to help them meet those expectations. This will show them I have confidence in their abilities and that it can grow in a positive manner. I will treat all my students equally, not showing favoritism or dislike. This shows my students that they are equals in the classroom, encouraging more participation in class discussions and classwork. I will correct students in a positive, non-threatening manner on academic and behavior choices, as this demonstrates the respect I have for them as individuals. Using these strategies show a student you care about them, which leads to establishing and building professional relationships that will last a lifetime.
Over the years, I worked many different jobs and have learned the importance of cooperating with other collages. Within the education field, the relationships you build with your collages are irreplaceable. We learn from each other on many levels and provide support to each other, resources, encouragement, and build up each other’s confidence in our abilities to educate students in a very challenging generation. I will provide my collages with a positive work environment, with constructive feedback, valuable resources, and encouragement; keeping in mind the words of Helen Keller, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” (Lash, J. P., 1981). Educating students takes a team. A team of confident, positive, and supportive individuals that have similar interests in education working together, doing as much as they can for their students, their school, and team members.
As a future educator, it is my goal to establish high expectations for my students; where they can succeed in all areas of life. I will model my classroom and teaching style to reflect to acceptance of different points of view and exhibit a love of learning to my students, that will promote a conducive learning environment. I will build relationships with my students where they feel confident, loved, challenged, and socially ready for further academics. I will build professional relationships with my collages that will further not only my teaching, but my collages as well. It is my strong belief that education is the foundation of our society. I believe Nelson Mandela said it best, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (Mandela, N., 2003, July 16). Having a quality education provides you with the tools necessary to make educated decisions when voting in elections, forming a political or world view, and the self-awareness to know where and when to help others and your community. As an educator, teaching is the most important job there is, as you are shaping the future minds of an ever-changing society. So, take each teachable moment and make it count.
