Education....
I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in the Spring of 2019 with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education, where I am endorsed in Reading K-12th and Social Studies 7th-12th grade. I also received an associates degree in General Education from Northwest Mississippi Community College in the Spring 2017.
A Long Road....
My decision to become a teacher was a long road; which involved a lot of obstacles and self-doubt. I had always loved being around children and hoped to be a mommy many times over. Unfortunately, that was not God’s plan for my life, but was blessed with one nearly perfect son twenty years ago.
Years before my son was born, I was working on applying for a teaching assistant position and work my way to becoming a teacher, but life happened. I started keeping my niece and nephew, and my plan changed. then, to my surprise I became a mom, but still wondered if working in education might still be in the future. Anytime I started to consider the plan of working in education, I could hear that little voice saying, “you will never be smart enough, you will not make it, you cannot afford it, just give up”. I gave in to the voice, life, and moved on.
As I prepared for my son to go to kindergarten, I revisited the teaching assistant idea and decided to try again. To my surprise I was hired and both me and my son started together, that was sixteen years ago. Once I was in a classroom working with children every day, I knew this was my passion. Since I was unable to have more children of my own, my students have filled that void in my life.. I am overjoyed when they learn something new, rejoice when they finally understand a challenging concept, and beyond proud when they accomplish their goals. I know in my heart this is what I am meant to do.
In the words of German philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, “Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion” (Hegel, G. W., Brown, R. F., & Hodgson, P. C., 2011).
My passion is to teach, love, and encourage children to succeed in life.

For the future....
I am passionate about my job and have a desire to expand my teaching skills. By observing my peers and completing continuing education courses, I will gain additional experience in my field. I am a very organized individual which allows for maximum instruction time and allows me the ability to stay on schedule. I am consistent in my classroom management skills providing a calm, controlled, and conducive learning environment. I am consistent in routines and procedures and my students are comfortable in utilizing them. I have a great rapport with my students (firm, loving, providing positive verbal praise, redirecting when needed). My overall goal is to never stop learning and consistently improve on my strengths of organization, consistency of routines and procedures, and my great rapport with my students.
